The body mass index (BMI) is a statistic developed by Adolphe Quetelet in the 1900's to calculate body mass. It is not at all related to one's gender or age. Also it uses the same formula for women, men and children.

BMI= (Weight in pounds / (Height in inches*Height in inches) )* 703
