In computing, booting is the process of starting a computer. It can be initiated by hardware such as a button press, or by a software command. After it is switched on, a computer's central processing unit (CPU) has no software in its main memory, so some process must load software into memory before it can be executed.

• It is the process of starting a computer. It can be defined as "The procedure of transferring the operating system from secondary storage to main memory is called Booting".

• It can be of two types cold booting and hot booting.

• It is important as it assure the continuity in hardware and software interface.

• It is needed for run any program on the computer as it is the first step which run first when the computer is turned on.

• It is necessary as it is stored in the main memory which has the address of operating system.

• The steps includes in the booting is :

1. BIOS is loaded (Basic Input/Output System).
2. Then Power on self test is completed (POST)

4. Then it accomplished the system configuration.
5. In this step , the system utilities will be uploaded.
