Bryophytes are an informal group consisting of three divisions of non-vascular land plants: the liverworts, hornworts and mosses. They are characteristically limited in size and prefer moist habitats although they can survive in drier environments. The bryophytes consist of about 20,000 plant species.

➡Bryophyta are the amphibians of plant kingdom as they can live in soil but are dependent on water for sexual reproduction.
➡It is a division of small flowerless green plants.
➡ They usually grow on damp,humid and shaded areas.
➡ The body of bryophyta is thallus like and erect.
➡They lack true roots,stem and leaves.
➡They sex organs are separated in bryophytes. The male sex organ is known as antheridium and the female sex organ is known as archegonium.
➡The bryophyta is divided into two groups:-
1. Liverworts
2. Mosses
➡Bryophytes (mosses) provide food for herbivorous animals.
