Buffer solutions are those which retain their pH when a small amount of acid or base is added.

Basic Buffers are a mixture of a weak base and it's salt

Example:

Ammonium hydroxide +Ammonium Chloride

Solutions that do not show any change in the value of pH when few drops of acids or base are added to them are called as buffer solutions.

Types

  • Acidic buffer solution

It is the mixture of weak acid and

salt (with strong base)

e.g CH3COOH + CH3COONa

  • Basic buffer solution
