Example of a work :-

  • A man while pushing a car applies the work .
  • Cyclist wild paddling a cycle .
  • A boy going upstairs .

Measurement of Work:-

The amount of work done on a body depends on two factor :-

  1. The magnitude of the force applied .
  2. The displacement produced by the force .

___________________________________

therefore we can say that,

Work equals to force into displacement of the point of the application of force in the direction of the force .

  • If a force act on a body and the body does not move displacement is zero then no work is done.
  • Work is a scalar quantity.

Units of work:-

  • SI unit of work is Joule it is abbreviated as J.
  • The CGS unit of work is erg.

1 \: erg = 1dyne \: \times 1cm

1 erg of work is said to be done when a force of 1 dyne displaces a body through a distance of 1 cm in its own direction.
