Answer-

  • Those substances that are sour in taste and corrosive in nature are known as acids..

Acids can be categorised into two types:-

  1. Organic acid
  2. Mineral acid

  • Acids which are found in plants and animals or their products are called organic acids. For example:- citric acid(lemons, oranges)
  • Acids derived from inorganic compounds are known as mineral acid. For example:-hydrochloric acid.

Properties of acids:-

  • Acids are sour in taste.
  • Acids are corrosive in nature and have the ability to corrode metals. It is for this reason that they are generally stored in glasswares.
  • Acids are soluble in water.

  • It is used as vinegar to enhance the flavour of food.
  • It is used as a cleaning agent to clean Flores, utensils, etc.
  • It is used to remove stains on carpets and woodwork.
  • It is used as preservative in pickles.
