Heavy rainfalls are those in which the precipitation rate of rainfall is greater than 7.6 mm (0.30 in) per hour, or between 10 mm (0.39 in) and 50 mm (2.0 in) per hour.

The regions in which such rainfalls occur are known as heavy rainfall regions. In India, one such region is Cherrapunji.

The place is located in Meghalaya, a Northeastern state in India.

It has monsoon season throughout the year.
