The geological region called "Greater India" once included Madagascar, Seychelles, Antarctica and Austrolasia along with the Indian subcontinent basin. As a geological term, Indian subcontinent has meant that region formed from the surrounding water is usually understood to be continuous, though not necessarily named as a single body of water. Peninsulas are not always named as such; one can also be a headland, cape, island promontory, bill, point, or spit. Peninsula is any landmass which is surrounded by water on three sides and land on one side. India is called as Indian Peninsulabecause it is surrounded by the Indian ocean on the south, the Arabian sea on the west and the Bay of Bengal .
