Wetlands are often referred to as 'Natural Kidneys or Earth's Kidneys'. They are called Natural kidneys because of their ability to store, assimilate and transform contaminants lost from the land before they reach waterways. Like a giant kidney, Wetlands help to dilute filter material that could otherwise harm our lakes, rivers and other waterways.

Wetland are said to be kidney of cities as they sequester pollutant generated in city. Ramsar convention provide guideline for there preservation & management globally. However recent Bangalore incidence suggest little has been done to achieve it.

1. Eutrophication - where algal boom hamper oxygen capability in reservoir leading nutrient(nitrogen , phosphorous) pile up
2. Illegal mining - in near by area
3. introduction of foreign evasion species
4. Urbanisation - where haphazard development created pressure on water body
