Lysosomes are vesicular structures which are membrane-bound, these structures are package of Golgi apparatus.

It is highly composed of many types of enzymes like lipases, proteases etc. which at the acidic pH become optimally active.

As lysosomes contain enzymes which have the ability to digest the unwanted products of the cell, as soon as they encounter the damaged cell or certain waste products, they immediately self destruct them which leads to the release of digestive enzymes.

Due to this reason, they are called a suicidal bag of the cell.
