Mathematically,

Absolute Refractive Index = Velocity of light in air/Velocity of light in that medium.


Now, Snell's law is the Second law of the Refraction.

''According to it, the refraction index of second media with respect to first media is defined as the ratio of the refractive index of media 1 to the refractive index of media 2.''
