Answer:

The gap between 2 neurons is called

"Synaptic Cleft"

Some information on Synaptic Cleft :

1. Synaptic Cleft is just 0.2 micro-metres gap between the 2 neurons.

2. On either side of the synaptic cleft lies the pre-synaptic and post- synaptic membranes.

3. Neurotransmitters are released from the pre-synaptic membrane. The neurotransmitters traverse across the synaptic cleft and attach to receptors on the post- synaptic membrane.

4. Through the Synaptic Cleft travels chemical impulses which helps in neuronal transmission.

Importance:

The main importance of Synaptic Cleft is that , it is responsible for slight peripheral delay of neuronal transmission.

For example, Nodal delay in heart is because of this function of cleft. It helps in proper filling of the ventricles before contractions of the heart.
