The Preamble is the introductory statement to the constitution. It sets forth the main objectives that the Constituent Assembly aims to achieve. It is based on the Objectives Resolution proposed by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and was adopted by the Constituent Assembly. The Preamble to the Constitution embodies the ideals as well as aspirations of people of India. By the 42nd Constitution Amendment Act, 1976, three terms namely, socialist, secular and integrity were inserted in the preamble.
