Answer:

Carbonization (or carbonisation) is the conversion of an organic substance into carbon or a carbon-containing residue through pyrolysis or destructive distillation. It is often used in organic chemistry with reference to the generation of coal gas and coal tar from raw coal.

Carbonization is the process of conversion of dead vegetation into coal. Coal contains mainly carbon hence the process is called carbonization.

About 300 million years ago, earth had dense forests in low lying wetland areas. These forests were subjected to flooding. Due to this phenomenon the forests got buried under a layer of soil. As more and more layers formed the temperature and pressure increased. The high pressure and temperature converted the dead vegetation into coal.

Briefly, Carbonization is the conversion of organic matters like plants and dead animal remains into carbon through destructive distillation
