Cardiovascular tissue is also known as Cardiac muscle tissue.

Cardiac muscles are only present in the heart. They are involuntary in their activity.

Structure of cardiac muscles :

\bigstar Cardiac muscles are composed of branched fibres, the branches join to form a network.

\bigstar Each cell is surrounded by sarcolemma and has cytoplasm with longitudinal myofibrils and a centrally located nucleus.

\bigstar These muscles show densely stained cross - bands called intercalated discs at intervals.

Location of cardiac muscles :

\bigstar Cardiac muscles occcur in the walls of heart.

Function of cardiac muscles :

\bigstar Cardiac muscles contract and relax rapidly, rhythmically throughout life. They never get fatigued.

\bigstar The contraction and relaxation of the heart muscles help to pump and distribute blood to various parts of body.
