Cardiovascular tissue is also known as Cardiac muscle tissue.

Cardiac muscles are only present in the heart. They are involuntary in their activity.

Structure of cardiac muscles :

$\bigstar$ Cardiac muscles are composed of branched fibres, the branches join to form a network.

$\bigstar$ Each cell is surrounded by sarcolemma and has cytoplasm with longitudinal myofibrils and a centrally located nucleus.

$\bigstar$ These muscles show densely stained cross - bands called intercalated discs at intervals.

Location of cardiac muscles :

$\bigstar$ Cardiac muscles occcur in the walls of heart.

Function of cardiac muscles :

$\bigstar$ Cardiac muscles contract and relax rapidly, rhythmically throughout life. They never get fatigued.

$\bigstar$ The contraction and relaxation of the heart muscles help to pump and distribute blood to various parts of body.
