Carrier proteins and channel proteins are the two major classes of membrane transport proteins.

Carrier proteins are glycoproteins, whereas channel proteins are lipoproteins.

A channel protein is a protein that allows the transport of specific substances across a cell membrane.

Carrier Protein :-

  • Bind the particular solute to be transported
  • Some allow two types of molecules move across the membrane called cotransport.

It is of three types :-

1. Symport :-

  • Both molecule cross the membrane in same direction.

2. Antiport :-

  • Both molecule move in opposite direction

3. Uniport :-

  • A molecule move across independent of other molecule.

Channel Proteins :-

  • Allow diffusion of the solutes

It is of two types :-

1. Ion channel :-

  • Allow passage of specific ions
  • Often gated voltage mechanical and ligand gated

2. Porins :-

  • They are large proteins pores .
  • Allows even small sized protein to pass through

Hope it helps uh!!!
