What is catalyst?
How dose a catalyst effect the rate of chemical reaction?

To increase the rate of a reaction you need to increase the number of successful collisions. One possible way of doing this is to provide an alternative way for the reaction to happen which has a lower activation energy. ... Adding a catalyst has exactly this effect of shifting the activation energy.

Catalyst is a substance (element/compund) which can alter the rate of a reaction(Rate means the time in which the reaction takes place)..There are positive as well as negative catalysts. Catalyst affect the rate of reaction by increasing or decreasing the Reaction constanct (or simply we can put that it alters the temperature of the reaction) without itself reacting with the products/reactants.

Hope it helps
