Substances which alter the rate of a chemical reaction and themselves remain chemically unchanged after the reaction are known as catalysts.

Example: In the procss of manufacturing of ammonia Fe is used as catalyst.

Types Of Catalyst:-

1. Positive catalyst: A positive catalyst accelerates a reaction
2. Negative Catalyst: Chemical reactions are sometimes retarded by the presence of a foreign substance this substance is known as a negative catalyst.

there are four types of catalyst :

• Homogeneous.
• Heterogeneous (solid)
• Heterogenized homogeneous catalyst
• Biocatalysts.
