  • Catenation is the self linking property of an element by which an atom combines with the other atoms of the same element to form long chains and cyclic structures. C is the best example of this phenomenon.

  • Tetravalency is the state of an atom in which there are four electrons available with the atom for covalent chemical bonding. For example, in methane (CH4), the tetravalent carbon atom forms a covalent bond with four hydrogen atoms.
