What is a cell?
Cells are the basic structural unit of our life. Cells word first discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665. The word "cell" means the small room. The study of cell is called cytology.
Different types of cell :
Generally there are 200 types of cells but it is not possible to write about them all. So we discuss about the main two types of cells :
- Eukaryotic cells
- Prokaryotic cells
Eukaryotic Cells :
- Nucleus is present
- They have membrane bound organelles.
- They are large in size.
- Their nucleus contain more than one chromosome.
- Ex - Bacteria, Cyanobacteria.
Prokaryotic Cells :
- Nucleus is absent
- They do not have membrane bound organelles.
- They are small in size
- Their nucleus contain only one type of chromosome.
- Ex - Plants and Animals.
