Cells are the basic and fundamental unit of a living organism, that is capable of independent existence as in the case of bacteria and protozoans. Cells are the building blocks of a living organism. A group of similar cells make up a tissue, a group of tissues performing a specific function make up an organ. Many organs which perform various functions form an organ system, and many organ systems come together to make up the body of an living organism.
