\bf{Matthias\:Schleiden} & \bf{Theodore\:Schwann} together gave the Cell Theory.

Schleiden observed that all plants are composed of different kinds of cells which form the tissues of the plant.

Schwann concluded the presence of cell wall, a unique characteristics of plant cells. On this basis, he proposed a hypothesis that the bodies of animals and plants are composed of cells or products of cells.

However, it did not explained how the new cells were formed.

Later \bf{Rudolf\:Virchow} first explained that cell divided and the new cells were formed from the pre-existing cells.

Therefore, in today's world we understand cell theory as:

i) all living organisms are composed of cells and it's products

ii) all cells arise from the pre-existing cells.

Hope it helps you ^_^
