In plant cell, there occur a rigid cell wall which lies outside the plasma membrane and cell wall is non-living and freely permeable and is secreted by the cell itself body protection of plasma membrane and cytoplasm.

• It maintains the shape of cell.

• It protect the cell from mechanical injury.
• It is freely permeable to the water and substances present in the surrounding fluid.
• The cell wall of adjacent cells are together by middle lamella. Middle lamella is jelly like substance made up of calcium and magnesium.
