The poem deals with the presentation of struggle, fear and uncertainties. All worries and problems are out of control of human beings.  We can not answer  every questions and possible situations that might happen in out life. We should focus on our present and should think about  "what if".  when we stress upon answering these what if questions, our vulnerabilities will become out of control.

Poem ‘Whatif’ by Shel Silverstein is about human fears and phobia that pester and haunt each one of us.

Quite frequently when the poet goes to bed his mind becomes cluttered with the haunting voicing of fears, phobias and nightmares. Fears such as probable failures, mishaps, conspiracies, illness, dislikes, accidents, loss, etc. shriek in the peaceful hall of his mind during sleep.

Then all the voices of fears subside again; but at nighttime they again return and make the poet quite uncomfortable and panicky.
