Centripetal force is a force acting radially inwards on the object moving in a circular motion.

The word "centripetal" comes from the word

1. "centri" => radially inwards and

2. "petals" => petals of a flower.

This kind of force is "velocity dependent".

This means that the object starts experiencing this force only after the objects starts moving.

The formula used to calculate centripetal force = mv²/r,

where m is the mass, v is the velocity and r is the radius of the circle in which the object moves.

Since this force is velocity dependent, the centripetal force is constant in uniform motion.

The force changes in case of Non- uniform circular motion.
