what is chemical equation types of chemical equation
Answers
Answer:
The shorthand and symbolic representation of chemical reactions using words and formula,is known as Chemical equation.
There are two types of chemical equations:
1)Balanced Chemical Equation:
A type of chemical equation in which the number of reactants and products are equal. This follows the law of conservation of mass.
Example,
Na + Cl=========>NaCl
2)Skeletal Chemical Equation (Unbalanced):
In this type of chemical equation,the no.of reactants and no.of products are not equal. These reactions need to be balanced.
Example,
H2 + O2========>H2O
There are five types of chemical reactions:
1. Combination reaction:
A type of chemical reaction in which two or more substances(elements or compounds) combine to form a new substances.
There are three types of combination reactions:
1) Reaction between a compound and an element
2) Reaction between a compound and a compound
3) Reaction between an element and an element
Example,
H2 + O2=======>H2O
2. Decomposition reaction:
When a compound decomposes to form simpler compounds or elements,this is known as decomposition reaction.
There are types of decomposition reactions:
1) Electrolysis
2) Thermal Decomposition Reaction
3)Photochemical reaction or photolysis
Example,
FeSO4======>Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
3. Displacement reaction:
When a more reactive substance displaces a less reactive one from it's aqueous solution,it is known as displacement reaction.
Example,
Fe + CuSO4========>Cu + FeSO4
4. Double displacement reaction:
Exchange of atoms and ions between substances to form new substances
Example,
Na2SO4 + BaCl2========>
NaCl + BaSO4
5. Redox reaction:
When oxidation(addition of Oxygen or loss of electrons) and reduction(removal of Oxygen and gain of electrons) occur simultaneously,it is known as redox reaction.
Example,
CuO + H2=======>Cu + H2O
Here,CuO is being reduced to Cu and H2 is being oxidised to H2O.
P.S.,
Aqueous:
Saturated solution of substances
Exothermic Reactions:
Reactions in which heat energy is evolved.
Example,
CaO + H2O======>Ca(OH)2 + heat
Endothermic Reactions:
Reactions in which heat energy is absorbed. Similar to Thermal Decomposition Reaction.
Chemical equation to be balances, the number of each type of atom must be the same for both the reactants and the products.
How to Balance a Chemical Equation
Steps for balancing equation:
Identify the elements on each side.
Count the atoms of each element on each side.
Use coefficents to balance the number of each type of atom at a time.
Double-check the coefficients
Reactants:
K 1
Cl 1
O 3
_____
Products:
K 1
Cl 1
O 2
________
Example: ⇒ KCIO₃ ⇒ KCL + O₂
Balancing Chemical Equation
Magnesium burns in the presence of oxygen to produce magnesium.
