What is a Chemical Reaction?

It's a change in one or more substances, called reactants which combine to form one or more substances which have completely different properties called products.

Reactants : The substances on the left hand side, which perform chemical reactions and they undergo chemical change.

Products : The substances which are on the right hand side and are formed after undergoing few chemical changes in them.

Are the chemical reactions of different types?

Yes. The chemical reactions are of five types. They are given below :

  1. Combination Reaction
  2. Decomposition Reaction
  3. Displacement Reaction
  4. Oxidation and Reduction Reaction
  5. Exothermic and Endothermic Reactions.

How do you know if a chemical reaction has taken place?

By the change in state, change in color, evolution of gas, change in temperature and by the formation of precipitate we can understand that a chemical reaction has taken place.
