when we add ethanol to acetic acid a sweet smelling substance a ester is formed
this only happens when alcohol is added to acid hence this can be used as a test

using phenopthelene and methyleorange we can test acids or bases....
acid + methyleorange = red colour.
acid + phenopthelene = colourless.
acetic acid + methyleorange = red colour....
it is a chemical test....
