In biochemistry, chemosynthesis is the biological conversion of one or more carbon-containing molecules and nutrients into organic matter using the oxidation of inorganic compounds or methane as a source of energy, rather than sunlight, as in photosynthesis

Plants make food in their leaves. The leaves contain a pigment called chlorophyll, which colors the leaves green. Chlorophyll canmake food the plant can use from carbon dioxide, water, nutrients, and energy from sunlight. This process is called photosynthesis.
