Chemosynthesis is the conversion of one or more carbon-containing molecules and nutrients into organic matter using the oxidative inorganic compounds or methane as a energy source as in photosynthesis.

Many microorganisms in dark regions of the oceans use chemosynthesis to produce food from single carbon molecules because of their inability to get sunlight. This may occur with or without the presence of oxygen.

Many chemosynthetic plants are present in the darker regions of the seas and oceans ehich makes food by chemosynthesis and they convert a single molecule of carbon into starch a suitable component which can be used as a supplement to sunlight
