What is cheque and balance system of power sharing?

In the horizontal power sharing the power is shared among different organ of govt. ie.legislative ,executive , judiciary. each organ can check each other's decisions if they feel it's wrong then they can oppose it. this reasults. in a balance of power among different institution. although the judge are appointed by the executive , they can check the functioning of executive or law made by legislatures. This arrangement is called a system of check and balance.
