Chipko movement also known as tree hugging movement was a forest conservation movement started by Mr. Sundarlal Bahuguna in the district of Uttaranchal .The movement was organized to oppose the destruction of nature. Mr Bahuguna emphasized the importance of trees in environment to the people.The women of the village tied the sacred thread around trunks of trees and they hugged the trees,When anybody tried to cut the trees hence it was called Chipko Movement .
