The process in which elecricity is passed through an aqueous solution of sodium chloride(called brine),it decomposes to form sodium hydroxide is called chlor-alkali process.The products formed from this process are chlor and alkali for sodium hydroxide.

The two uses of NaOH obtained are:-

i.De-greasing metals
ii.making soaps and detergents
