Equation of this process - :

2 NaCl + 2 H2O ===> H2 + Cl2 + 2NaOH

For sodium chloride, there is an industrial process in electrolysis, called as chlor alkali process.

It is the process by which chlorine and sodium chloride can be obtained.

The same process gives rise to this chemical reaction - 2NaCl + 2 H2O --> H2 + Cl2 + 2NaOH.

Simply, as the reaction takes place, the name is given to this process as chlor alkali, which is referred to chlorine and alkali.

Yeah, sometimes, chlor alkali processes include potassium hydroxide and muriatic acid besides, caustic soda and chlorine.
