Water chlorination is the process of adding chlorine to water. This method is used to kill certain bacteria and other microbes in tap water as chlorine is highly toxic. In particular, chlorination is used to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, jaundice, typhoid etc.

Chlorination is the process of purification of water by the addition of chlorine to impure water to remove impurities which consists of algae, bacteria, arsenic, iron, etc.
Chlorine powder is scattered in water which absorbs all of the impurities present. It is used mostly by explorers and soldiers.
