Chlorophyll is a green coloured pigment found in plants. It is also called as the 'green blood of plants' due to the fact that it has very similar chemical structure to Haemoglobin in human blood. It is a complex organic molecule, responsible for photosynthesis in plants and in some other organisms.

Chlorophyll's job in a plant is to absorb light—usually sunlight. The energy absorbed from light is transferred to two kinds of energy-storing molecules. Through photosynthesis, the plant uses the stored energy to convert carbon dioxide (absorbed from the air) and water into glucose, a type of sugar.
