A cholinergic is one which is responsive to acetylcholine neurotransmitter

Explanation:

  • Acetylcholine is  a monoamine neurotransmitter.
  • Binding of acetylcholine to a particular receptor exert its effect on this cell by changing intracellular signaling pathway.
  • cell that contain a particular receptor for acetylcholine will response by showing several function or effect due to binding of acetylcholine. Therefore  cell which is responsive to acetylcholine is called cholinergic
  • two type of receptor is found for acetylcholine. one is nicotinic and another is muscarinic receptors. the Former is found in skeletal muscle and binding of acetylcholine to it result in contraction.
  • Muscarinic found on heat muscle and responsible for relaxation when acetylcholine bound.
