Chromatography is a laboratory technique for the separation of a mixture.

advantage:= analytical method which is used for the separation of an volatile substance from a give mixture of compounds which are very difficult to separate and analyse

CHROMATOGRAPHY:

(Khroma=color)

The technique of separating the components of a mixture in which separation is achieved by the differential movement of individual components through a stationary phase under the influence of mobile phase IS KNOWN AS CHROMATOGRAPHY.

it is essentially a physical method of separation.

Depending upon the principle involved there are two types of chromatography:

1) Adsorption chromatography

PRINCIPLE:-this method is based on the differential adsorption of the various components of a mixture in a suitable adsorbent. since some compounds are more strongly adsorbed than the other, they will travel through the column at different rates and thud get separated.

2) Partition(paper) chromatography

PRINCIPLE:-paper chromatography is based on the principle of partition,i.e.,it is based upon continuous differential partitioning of the various components of the mixture between the stationary and the mobile phases.

ADVANTAGES

1)This method of separation is quite versatile method it can be done to-

separation

purification

identification

characteristics and,

testing the purity.

2}It is the most modern method.

3)It produces minimal waste.
