Answer :

Cilia and Flagella :-

  • Both of them are hair like outgrowth of cell membrane.
  • Cilia are small structures which help in the movement of materials.
  • Flagella are comparatively longer and the responsible for cell movement.
  • The prokaryotic bacteria possess flagella which are structurally different from the flagella that you eukaryotic organisms possess.
  • Both of them emerge from centriole like structure called the basal bodies.
  • Both of them are covered with plasma membrane and their core is called axoneme.
  • The axoneme consist of microtubules parallel to each other.
  • It usually have nine pairs of doublets of radially arranged peripheral microtubules and one is centrally located.
  • Such an arrangement of of these microtubules is referred to as 9+2 array.
  • The Central tubules in the axoneme are connected to the bridges which are enclosed by central sheath.
  • These tubules is connected to each of the tubules of peripheral doublets by radial spoke. Thus, there is presence of 9 radial spokes.
  • The peripheral doublets are connected by linkers.
