The process of separating something from anything. For eg-  Separating sand from water. Classification is of different types -

1) winnowing - lighter substances are separated by air. eg- separating husk from wheat.

2) Hand picking - Bigger substances are separated by hand. eg- separating rock from rice. etc.

3) Threshing - Stalks are beaten to free the grains.

4) Sieving - Smaller substances are separated using a sieve.

5) Sedimentation - Heavier components are separated by adding water to the, as we add water the heavier substances settle at the bottom.

6) Decantation - When water is moved along with the dust particles it is called decantation.

7) Filtration - Filtration helps to remove very fine dust particles using a sieve.
