clauses are groups of words that have a subject and verb and can convey an incomplete or a complete thought or Idea.

clauses maybe principal clauses for dependent clauses

the principal or main clause contains the main verb of the sentence and shows the time of action of the sentence.

this clause can stand on its own and does not require anything else to make complete sense

the dependent or subordinate clause contains a subject and a word but cannot make a complete sentence by itself. Not can it show the time of action or tense of the sentence.
