Female Reproductive system

The organs of the female reproductive system are responsible  for the production and sustenance of the female sex cell i.e. ova, transporting these cells to the site where fertilization by sperm occurs, providing a favorable environment for the developing fetus and to produce the female sex hormones.

The parts of the female reproductive system are:

  • A pair of two ovaries.
  • Fallopian tubes (oviducts).
  • Uterus
  • Cervix
  • Vagina
  • Vulva (External Genitalia)
  • Accessory glands

Vulva or External Genitalia

The external genital organs of a female is collectively known as Vulva of which clitoris is a part. The other genital organs of the vulva are mons pubis, Labia Majora, Labia Minora, Clitoris and Hymen.

CLITORIS

  • Clitoris is equivalent to the male penis.
  • It is a small erectile and highly sensitive organ.
  • It is located at the uppermost angle of the vulva in front of urethral opening.
  • It is the organ of sexual arousal in females.
  • It contains a shaft of erectile tissue that becomes engorged with blood during sexual stimulation.
