Coal is primarily used as fuel to generate electric power in the United States. The coal is burned and the heat given off is used to convert water into steam, which drives a turbine.

Coal:- Coal is a fossil fuel, that is black in colour. It is found in deep coal mines under the earth's surface. In India coal is mainly found in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh etc. The big coal mines are situated at Jharia and Bokaro in Jharkhand and at Raniganj in West Bengal. It is formed by slow chemical process of converting dead plants and animals into coal by the action of high temperature and pressure.

  • Coal is used in chulhas at many villages for cooking.
