We can define Coalition Government in two ways. They are :
Definition - 1 :
• Two or more parties join together and form an alliance to defeat a major party is called as "Coalition Government".
• We saw this coalition in 1977 general elections. As, other political parties formed an alliance to defeat the giant party "Indian National Congress".
• In this coalition, Morarji Desai became the prime minister of India.
• However, the first coalition Prime minister was V.P Singh.

• If a party got less majority in general elections, then other parties merge with that party and form Coalition Government.
• However, nowadays Coalition Government is famous in India.
• There are two coalition parties in India.
• They are National Democratic Alliance led by Bharatiya Janata party and United Progressive Alliance led by Indian National Congress.
