Erosion is the wearing away of the land by the sea. This often involves destructive waves wearing away the coast. There are five main processes which cause coastal erosion. These are corrasion, abrasion, hydraulic action, attrition and corrosion/solution.Already, coastal erosion costs roughly $500 million per year for coastal property loss, including damage to structures and loss of land. Coastal erosion is the process by which local sea level rise, strong wave action, and coastal flooding wear down or carry away rocks, soils, and/or sands along the coast.

Seawalls: Seawalls are one particularly effective way to prevent erosion. These are structures that are built along the coastline to stop waves from ever coming into contact with the sand/shore on the opposite side.
