COLLOIDAL SOLUTION -

  • A Solution in which the dispersed phase is mixed in dispersing medium.
  • The particle size in colloidal solution ranges from 1 - 10^-^9metre.
  • In colloidal solution, the particles of the dispersed phase remain in a suspended manner.
  • The substance that is dispersed is known as the dispersion phase and in which it is dispersed is known as the dispersion medium.
  • On the basis of physical state colloidal solutions can be Solid solutions, aerosols, gels, Emulsions.
  • Based on dispersion medium, solutions can be alcosol, hydrosol, and acrosol.
  • Based on interactive forces between the dispersed phase and dispersion medium are lyophilic and lyophobic sol.
  • Example - Mud, milk, jelly, cream, dust, cheese, butter, smoke.
