Colonialism is a process or policy in which a technologically advanced country forcibly occupy another country to exploit its natural resources.

  • Colonialism can be defined as process in which a technologically advanced country forcibly takes complete control over another country which is poor in technology but, rich in natural resources to exploit it economically.
  • The occupied territories were referred to as colonies of these nations. It was prevalent during 17th, 18th and even 19th centuries and only came to an end after Second World War. Almost all ruler countries were European power and their colonies were in Asia, Africa, Latin America and later North America.
  • The sole purpose of making colonies was to establish political control over these colonies so, that they can make rules and regulations for their economic prosperity at the cost of native's interests. The Indian subcontinent was also a major colony of British empire and only became independent on 15th August 1947.
