Combination reaction

A reaction in which two or more reactants combine to form single product.

Example :

(i) Calcium Oxide (quick lime) reacts vigorously with water to form calcium hydroxide (slaked lime).

The reaction is highly exothermic, as a lot of heat is produced during reaction.

CaO (s) + {H}_{2}O (l) \rightarrow Ca(OH)_{2} (aq) + Heat\\calcium \:\:\:\:water\:\:\:\:\:\: calcium\: hydroxide\\ oxide \\\\quick lime \:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:\:slaked lime

(ii) Burning of coal

C (s)    +    O₂ (g)   →   CO₂ (g)

carbon    oxygen      carbon dioxide

(iii) reaction between Hydrogen gas and oxygen gas to form water

2H₂ (g)      +   O₂     →   2H₂O (l)

hydrogen    oxygen       water
