The process of burning.

What is combustion explain?

Combustion is the scientific word for burning. In a combustion reaction, a substance reacts with oxygen from the air. Combustion reactions happen at high temperatures, and transfer energy to the surroundings as light and heat. This is why you see flames when things burn.

The process of burning of a carbon compound in air to give carbon dioxide, water, heat and light is known as combustion.

It is also called burning. Most of the carbon compounds burn in air to produce a lot of heat.

  • for example alkanes burn in air to produce a lot of heat due to which alkanes are excellent fuel.

More Information :-

Related to carbon compound,

  • Carbon and it's compound are used as fuels because they burn in air releasing a lot of heat energy.

  • A mixture of ethyne and air is not used for welding because burning of ethyne in air produces a sooty flame due to incomplete combustion which is not hot to melt metals for welding.
