This system of crop cultivation is usually practised in sparsely populated areas where agricultural land is abundant with respect to the demand of food. Canada, USA, Russia, Ukraine, Argentina, Australia and in some parts of India commercial grain farming is practised. In USA there are distinct wheat, corn and cotton belts. The amount of labour and capital employed are small compared to the area being cultivated. It is, therefore, called extensive agriculture. Farms are of big size spreading over hundreds of hectares. Most of the work on the farms are done by machines. In Europe, there has been trend of diversification of crops instead of specialisation.
